Safety First

The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance. Therefore, all doors at nex+Gen remain locked throughout the day. It is mandatory for all students, staff, and visitors to wear an identification badge to ensure we know who is on campus at all times. Students are required to enter the school through the front (southwest) door and scan their ID. Those without an ID should check in at the front desk to obtain a temporary pass.

Parents, if you need to check out your student, please report to the front desk to sign them out and present your ID.

Coming & Going

Students should be dropped off at the circle on the north side of campus. You can access the drop-off area from San Mateo. Click here to view a map of the school and the pick-up and drop-off location.

At nex+Gen, similar to other APS magnet schools, it is the responsibility of families to organize transportation for their students. Many choose to carpool, while others prefer walking, biking, or taking the city bus. For those living in the Cleveland and McKinley Middle School areas, there is also the option to ride the APS bus to nex+Gen.

Dress Code

nex+Gen prides itself on our ability to prepare students for both college and professional settings. Developing good judgment about appropriate dress is part of that education. While expectations for dress in a school are generally more casual than the workplace, student dress should communicate a respect for the educational setting and an understanding that for teens, this is their “workplace”. Students should plan on attire which is neat, clean, and not overly revealing.

No student may wear clothing that contains:

  • obscene or violent language or images

  • depictions of alcohol, drugs, or other illegal items or activities

  • racist content, hate speech, profanity or pornography

  • accessories that could be considered dangerous or used as a weapon
